Schwinn Fitness Equipment – A Great Workout From A Trusted Company
Schwinn fitness equipment introduced the first in home workout equipment
in nineteen sixty-five. Schwinn is now owned by
Nautilus Incorporated,
who also makes brands like Bowflex, Stairmaster, and Trimline.
Schwinn, combined with Nautilus, has over thirty years in the business of
making fitness equipment. They are the only company who spans all aspects
of exercise equipment. The company was founded in 1986 and currently
employs more than one thousand people. They are based in Vancouver,
Washington.
The Schwinn Story – An Interesting History
Schwinn began making bicycles in 1895 when Ignaz Schwinn and Adolph
Arnold created “Arnold, Schwinn, & Company. Their product started in
Chicago, and it would have been very difficult for them to believe what a
small business like theirs would eventually develop into.
Their first bikes weighed somewhere around twenty-two pounds. The cost was
prohibitive for most people – somewhere between ninety and one hundred and
thirty dollars. That may sound like a lot now, but then it was even more
money. However, as bike manufacturing improved with the decade of the
nineteen twenties, the company was able to both build and sell their
products at much lower costs. This created a huge boom in bicycles in the
United States. Schwinn was one of the first companies to market their
bikes to everyone, not just the rich.
The nineteen fifties brought even more changes for the company, complete
with celebrity endorsements from people like Ronald Reagan and Bob Hope.
But 1963 was the best possible year for the company – they created the
Schwinn Sting-Ray. Every kid had one or wanted one. In 1967, Arnold,
Schwinn, & Company became Schwinn Bicycle company because of a dispute the
two men had. The company continued with success and prosperity until the
nineties crashed into the world.
In 1993, Schwinn was forced to file for bankruptcy. This caused some
company restructuring, and the line of Schwinn fitness equipment was sold
to Nautilus.
